“How long does it last?” needs more than one number.
Formula, surface, environment and perceiver shape what happens. Projection, sillage and longevity are related, but they are not interchangeable.
Change one variable at a time. A scent that seems to disappear may still be detectable to a fresh observer; a fragrance that lasts can still sit close to skin.
Why can the same bottle wear differently?
Change one part of the wear. The bottle stays the same; the report may not.
Formula
The formula controls what can be released.
Material volatility and structure shape how the fragrance develops, but they do not act alone.
SURFACE + ENVIRONMENT
Skin, fabric, blotter, heat, humidity and moving air change the wear.
PERCEIVER
Adaptation and person-to-person sensitivity change the report.
KEEP THE WORDS SEPARATE
Longevity is duration. Projection is outward reach at a moment. Sillage is the trail left in moving air. A fragrance can last while staying close.
WHY IT CHANGES
Volatility, formula structure, dose, skin or fabric, heat, humidity, air movement and time all change the report. One wear is not a universal benchmark.
WHEN IT ‘DISAPPEARS’
Adaptation or specific anosmia may be involved, but do not diagnose from one impression. Step away, check a distant blotter and ask a fresh observer before adding more.
STORAGE
Keep fragrance closed, upright and away from sustained heat and direct light. Color or odor change matters more than a mythical universal expiration date.
